Sometimes it feels impossible to know whether a career change is what you need to be happy and more successful in life. You don’t know whether your job can give you what you really need or if you need a change of scenery. This is a problem many people can relate to – and I am guessing you too, but unless you take the time to assess the situation, you will never know for sure if it’s the right choice to make.
So how can you tell that you need a career makeover? Well, there are a couple of signs that help you find the answer to this big dilemma.
1. You Are Exhausted
You know you need a career change when your body starts breaking down. Since you spend about a third of your day at work, your job has a lot to do with the fact that you are feeling worn out and exhausted. Perhaps you don’t like your job, or you find it really stressful, but, either way, the fact that you are experiencing chronic illness does mean something. If this is happening, find out what is causing it, because you might just need a career makeover.
2. You Feel Empty
The one thing that can tell you for sure you need to change your career is the emptiness that you feel when you are in the wrong job. Even though you may like your job, you don’t get any satisfaction from it, and that is even worse to being exhausted. Perhaps it is time to rethink your priorities and look for a different profession where you can make better use of your skills.
3. You Want a Challenge
If you are considering a career change, it may be because your job doesn’t excite you anymore and you want a new challenge. After all, working for ten years as a secretary are more than enough. Perhaps it’s time to take your career in your hands and find out what you are looking for in a job. Who knows you may be suited for a more dangerous profession that gives you the kind of adrenaline rush you are looking for.
4. You Want a Different Life
If you are wondering how you could use your skills to make a living outside of your day job, perhaps you need a career makeover. This means you are not happy with your current circumstances, and you are willing to change careers. This works along with other expectations you have in life. So, for example, you may be after a bigger paycheck, more flexible working hours or a better work-life balance. Either way, your choice is yours to make.
5. You Dream of a Different Career
Well, that’s pretty obvious really. If you have a different career in mind then why should you stay in your current job any longer? Many graduates make the mistake of studying a subject they don’t enjoy hoping to find a job that offers a good salary and a decent living. But the only problem with that is that they end up in a job they hate which reinforces the big dilemma – Should you stay or should you go? Well, that’s easy. Build a career that makes you happy. While this means you may need to be unemployed for some time, it’s going to be worth it.
