Landing a job interview at a large company can be quite the challenge, but that challenge increases drastically when applying for Fortune 500 companies. After all, EVERYONE wants to work at these world-class companies, so the competition for the job position is going to be fierce!
If you want to land a job interview at a Fortune 500 company, here’s what you need to do:
Step 1: Find an Opening at the Fortune 500 Company
The first step is to find a job opportunity in a Fortune 500 company. You can do so by Googling "Fortune 500 jobs", or you can check out sites like Indeed and Career Builder. Just search using the keyword "Fortune 500", and you’ll find lots of great job openings. Find the one that you are suited for, and read the requirements for the job.
Step 2: Apply for the position
This is the hard part! The hiring managers are going to be flooded with applications, and yours will be just one more on the pile. So how can you make yours stand out?
- Give a quick summary of your skills, attributes, and talents. A short, concise resume is something not many hiring managers see among the sea of multi-page resumes. Make it as detailed as possible while keeping it as short as possible.
- Prove what you can do. Show that you are an effective worker by highlighting promotions, versatility, achievements, awards, and recognitions.
- Be proud of who you are, but don’t boast. You can say you are "excellent", but claiming to be "the best" at anything is just nonsense. Your resume should show confidence, but not vanity.

If you are applying to a Fortune 500 company, chances are good that one of their branches will be near you. Take the time to walk through a branch, see what the ambience is like, and how you would improve the operation of the company. It will help you when it comes time to do the interview.

While on the phone, don’t be afraid to be yourself, be genuine, and show interest in them. Remember, you’re interviewing them at the same time as they’re interviewing you, so ask questions and get the person to tell you as much about the job and themselves as possible.
Have a list of questions handy for the phone interview, and show your interest in both the job and company. The more you ask, the more your passion for the job will shine through. Make sure that the questions show more than just basic knowledge of your profession and the company, but demonstrate your understanding of the company in a unique way.
