How To Maximize Your Time When Working From Home

Working from home nowadays seems to make more sense. Personally, I prefer to work from home because I dictate my own schedule and I do not have to spend money and gas commuting from home to work. However, what I and plenty of other people have come to discover is that working from home comes with many distractions. If you really want to be productive, you have to figure out a way to rid yourself of pesky distractions. Here are some of the ways that you can maximize your time when working from home.

Design A Suitable Workspace

Your workspace should be built just for work. It should not be in front of the TV or located in your house where there is high traffic. Get the right desk and the right chair. There are three types of desks that you can choose from.

  1. A straight desk with drawers
  2. A desk with a hutch, that is, a desk with shelves and drawers to the side, above you or both.
  3. A corner desk which has drawers so you can work from two areas.

A swivel chair is a good option because you will be able to move between different parts of your desk.

Become a Morning Person

Just because you can create your own schedule does not mean that you can wake up at midday. Start early and stick to this schedule every day. Not only will this guarantee that you get your tasks completed on time but it also gives you extra time to meet with a friend for lunch or even watch your favorite movie.

Create a List of Goals

A list of goals gives you something to work towards during the day. Without a list of things to do you probably won’t be able to accomplish anything by the end of the day. In addition to creating a list of goals, ensure that you allocate each goal a specific amount of time. Try as much as possible to complete the task within the given time or else you will find yourself spending too much time on one task.

Use Mobile Applications

As far as being professional goes, your clients shouldn’t be able to tell whether you are working from home or not. Fortunately, there are plenty of mobile applications that can help you with this such as the virtual office app which allows you to turn your cell phone into a home phone. This app allows you to manipulate call settings, access previous voice messages and directories. It makes teleworking much simpler by letting you access the tools and information you need when you are out of the house.

Set Up Advanced Call Forwarding

There are instances where you might not be in a position to pick a call. For instance, some people prefer to have two different numbers; one for business and the other for personal use. By setting up advanced call forwarding, you will never miss a call because you can divert calls from your business number to your cell phone. This gives you a level of flexibility especially when you are not able to carry your business phone around with you.

Hire a Robotic Virtual Assistant

Hiring a robotic personal assistant is all about organizing your work life and keeping you on track. This especially comes in handy when you cannot afford to hire a personal secretary. An example of a robotic virtual assistant is Highrise. This is an online tool that can help you keep track of deals and proposals, helps you organize and save email conversations and notes and has reminders to ensure you never miss a meeting or a follow up.

Working from home should be satisfying rather than something that feels like a chore. A robotic virtual assistant, advanced call forwarding, mobile applications, creating a list of goals, becoming a morning person and designing a suitable work space will definitely help you maximize your time working from home.
