Meg Ryan starred in the famous romantic comedy, ’Sleepless in Seattle,’ a film written and directed by Nora Ephron.

Meg Ryan decided to step out from the Hollywood spotlight and go for a softer lifestyle! The 51-year-old actress opted to leave the glamorous film business for a private life in Manhattan, New York  with her daughter and musician boyfriend.

What happened to Meg Ryan?

In the late 80’s and during the 90’s almost all American movies had Meg Ryan as their protagonist. The title “America’s Sweetheart” was given to her after the blonde actress starred in films like "When Harry Met Sally," "Sleepless in Seattle," and "You've Got Mail."

But in the past decade, Ryan has noticeably disappeared from the screen, doing only small, supporting roles every now and then. Why did one of the most popular actresses in Hollywood disappear?

The latest issue of People revealed that it’s not because Ryan wasn't getting offers. Rather, she has chosen to focus on her family – her 8-year-old daughter Daisy and rocker boyfriend John Mellencamp. Ryan literally left Hollywood behind and moved to New York. “Los Angeles is just about movies but New York offers much more than that”, said writer Delia Ephron.

Now that she lost the prestigious status of “America’s sweetheart”, she is determined to live a low-profile life without caring about what people think of her.

Let’s remember some of Ryan’s most popular box office movies…
