Being an introvert doesn’t mean you are doomed to live a miserable and lonely life. The fact that you perhaps prefer to keep some things for yourself doesn’t make you any weaker or less successful than the 70% of extroverts out there. Many famous leaders prove that you don’t have to be an extrovert to be a true leader and achieve career success!

1. Albert Einstein

As you would have expected, the world’s most famous physicist was considered to be an introvert. This is because he came up with his best ideas when he was on his own. Einstein once said: “The monotony and solitude of a quiet life stimulates the creative mind”.

2. Mark Zuckerberg

The founder of Facebook Mark Zuckerberg is an example of a classic introvert. Although, he is the creator of the most popular social network, he is also profoundly shy and introverted. But this doesn’t mean he can’t be an inspiring leader.

3. J.K. Rowling

It comes as no surprise that the creator of Harry Potter, J.K. Rowling, is an introvert. Just like any other introvert, she feels most creative when she is alone. Besides she had the initial idea for Harry Potter when she was travelling alone on a train from Manchester to London.

4. Mahatma Gandhi


As an effective leader and non-violence preacher, Gandhi is also considered to have been an introvert. In his own words, he said, “In a gentle way, you can shake the world”.

5. Emma Watson

Emma Watson admits to being ‘an introverted kind of person just by nature’ after being told she doesn’t go out much or get drunk all the time unlike many girls of her age.

Although being a politician and an introvert sound a bit bizarre, that’s not the case with Barack Obama. This is because he has many characteristics that describe his introversion such as thoughtful communication and the fact that he is a rather solitary figure.

7. Christina Aguilera

The famous pop star Christina Aguilera, said in an interview for Marie Claire magazine that she has always felt like an outsider as a result of her introversion. Despite her on-stage dynamic appearances, Aguilera said she is rather shy, quiet and has a calm nature.

Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has also been described as an introvert. Writer and introvert expert, Susan Cain said “Bill Gates is quiet and bookish, but apparently unfazed by others’ opinions of him: he’s an introvert, but not shy”.

9. Audrey Hepburn

British actress, Audrey Hepburn regarded herself as an introvert: “I am an introvert… I love being by myself, love being outdoors, love taking a long walk with my dogs and looking at the trees, flowers, the sky”.

10. Angelina Jolie

Some years back Angelina Jolie admitted that she loves spending a lot of time by herself as it helps her develop as a person: ‘I don’t have a lot of friends. I’ve been alone a lot… I think when you’re alone, when you go someplace and you’re by yourself, you end up meeting new people and you develop”.

As you can see, you don’t necessarily have to be an extrovert to lead and enjoy a fulfilling and successful life. If you think you might be an introvert, accept your introversion and make it work to your benefit!
