There is lots of debate on which foods you should eat and which foods you should avoid. And we have all been known to indulge in foods we know we should leave alone. But before you go indulging any further take a look at the top 10 foods that even experts say we need to stay away from. So go on, put down that fork and read on.

1. Frosting


Store bought frosting is downright delicious, slathers on cookies, cakes and cupcakes but boy oh boy is this stuff bad for you. Packed full of Trans fats and sugars this treat is horrible for your waistline and health. High sugar foods cause early wrinkles and Trans fat can lead to high cholesterol and causes inflammation. Gross.

2. Soy Sauce

Don’t let the low calorie count fool you; this condiment has extremely high levels of sodium content. There is in fact enough sodium to leave you feeling extremely bloated and at risk for hypertension. Even the low sodium stuff is known to be bad for you. Just skip this food altogether.

3. Microwave Popcorn

This old favorite standby should be avoided at all costs. Luckily there is a simple solution and people are making the switch daily to popping their own kernels. Microwave popcorn is loaded with dangerous chemicals. The lining of the bag has a chemical that is known to cause cancer over time and another harmful chemical is in the fake butter. Do yourself a favour and get a popcorn machine.

4. Canned Tomatoes

Tomatoes come in a tin can. Tin cans almost always contain BPA. Although manufacturers are doing their part to avoid BPA in cans because tomatoes are so acidic alternative packaging is hard to come by. Since a plethora of BPA in your system can lead to reproductive problems to heart disease, diabetes, and obesity; we suggest buying your canned tomatoes in a glass jar.

5. Hot Dogs

Everyone remembers eating hot dogs as a kid and unfortunately we have to tell you; they are not good for you. Hot dogs contain a high level of nitrates which can be linked to childhood cancers, diabetes, heart disease and colon cancer. Don’t even think about trying the all natural hot dogs as they often have more nitrates than the normal ones. Your best bet is to stay away completely.

6. Margarine


This butter imposter is loaded with Trans fats, free radicals, emulsifiers, and preservatives; making this a very very bad alternative to butter. Don’t let those marketers fool you when they tell you butter is bad for you; it is actually full of conjugated linoleic acid which fights cancer and diabetes. This is one fat you shouldn’t cheap out on; but the real stuff instead.

7. Store Bought Trail Mix

Sure it sounds like a healthy snack but store bought trail mix can actually be really bad for you. The ones that include candy coated pieces, yogurt covered anything and deep friend things are high in sugar, Trans fat and refined carbohydrates. The biggest issue is once you dip your hand into the bag more than once you are at risk for consuming over 600 calories.  

8. Bagels

Bagels, although delicious are not good for you to consume. In fact if you plan on eating one bagel you have eaten enough carbohydrates for one day. Even whole wheat bagels aren’t exactly good for you as the majority of flour in them is the bad white stuff. They also happen to have a massively high glycemic index, which increases insulin and leads to increased inflammation in the body. It’s a shame they are so delicious.

9. Maraschino Cherries

These cute little red cherries that show up in ice cream floats and in fruity drinks should be avoided at all costs. That’s because they are processed in high sugar and packed full of artificial color. They also have zero nutritional value to them.

10. Sugary Cereal

Kids love them, adults love them and it’s no wonder why. Cereals such as Captain Crunch, Froot Loops and Frosted Flakes are full of sugar and gluten. They are especially high in sugars that cause high amounts of inflammation and for people with sensitive skin this means breakouts and redness.

Eating healthy can be hard but by avoiding these ten foods you can help your skin, waistline and health. Remember that it is okay to indulge once in a while but try to pick something like dark chocolate that is proven to be good for your body and mind.
