How to Turn Failure Into Success

Failures are inevitable in the career world. If you have experienced failure, you’re not alone. You need to brush yourself off and move toward. Many successful people have experienced failures, big failures at that. It is what they did with those failures that mattered. It’s a matter of learning and moving forward.

Turning failure into success is vital if you want to achieve big things. Some of the moments that feel the worst, can actually teach you the most. You need to be willing to take failures and turn them into a positive outcome.

Turning Failure Into Success

You know the saying, ’If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.’ This is very true in terms of your career. You can not give up just because you have negative feedback or don’t get the promotion you’re looking for. You need to use your lows to achieve your highs.

1. Take Control of the Situation

When something negative occurs, you need to acknowledge that it happened. Say to yourself, ’yes, this happened.’ You need to take control over your feelings so that you can better control the situation and the final outcome.

Acknowledge how you felt, it’s okay to admit you feel terrible. Think about what led up to this failure, acknowledging that you can’t change the past. You can however move forward, which is where your focus needs to be.

Remember, you are smart and valuable. You are entitled to fail once or twice. Like I said, it’s what you do with failure that makes you successful. Sometimes failure comes with risk, but without some risk there is little reward. Just remember that you are in control and you can move into a positive direction.

2. Look at Your Failure as Temporary

Failure does not mean ’the end.’ Failure can be the start of something better than you originally set out to achieve. You need to recognize that failure does not need to stop you, it is only temporary. The feeling you have of disappointment and sadness is only temporary. This is why it’s so crucial to take control of your feelings, you do not want those feelings to consume you.

Begin writing out the possible mistakes you made along the way. These mistakes need to put into perspective so that success is the new objective. You need to realize that failure is simply a momentary event. Do not waste your time, energy, and effort getting stuck in the negative event. Use that failure to your advantage and focus on success.

3. Begin By Setting Realistic Expectations

You need to be realistic about your career goals. For example, you can not read books on becoming a doctor and then believe that you’re ready to practice. This is clearly an extreme example, but you see how goals need to be realistic. Work towards your goals in a realistic and effective manner. Everyone fails at some point, so be prepared to deal with these setbacks.

In order to reach your goals, focus on your strengths. You can’t focus on your flaws; that is not beneficial. It is great to try and improve on your weaknesses, but it’s more vital to build on your strengths. Once you recognize your strengths, you’re much less likely to fail. You have talents and skills, use them. Focus on a career that will allow you to thrive.

4. Press Forward With Self-Confidence

People that are achievers do not dwell on the negative feelings associated with failure. It’s important to bounce back and push onwards. This is when you take the time to learn from your failures, not obsess over them. Once you have learnt what went wrong, you’re ready to make the future better than the past.

Do not let failures hinder your confidence levels. Failure is potentially lurking around the corner, but you can not think that way. You need to be confident in yourself and your abilities. Your response to failure is key and dictates your future. Getting down on yourself will only hinder your progress.

Once you collect your thoughts and lessons, approach your task with a heightened sense of confidence. You know what didn’t work, so push forward with what will work. Perseverance is the key to success, so do not let failure hold you back. Simply investigate and makes the necessary changes.

5. Reframe, Revise, and Refocus

You may need to start from the beginning. If so, ask for honest feedback. If you fish for feedback that feeds your ego, you will not become as successful as you could be. Take in all the information you can, painting a complete picture of what happened and why it occurred. You need to stay strong, not reacting poorly to what people have to say. View feedback as a step in the right direction.

Don’t be too rigid in your ideas or goals. Being open to new prospectives or opportunities is crucial moving forward. Once your ideas are in order, write out an effective action plan. Attach realistic timeframes so that you can achieve your goals step-by-step. This can make things less overwhelming as one task needs to be completed before the next can be started. Failure often happens because you rush through the required steps. Slow down and do it properly.

Once your plan is set out, embrace it 100%. Do not let your past failure hinder your new path moving forward. Do not second guess yourself, as your action plan should be highly thought out. The worst thing you can do is hang onto the feeling of disappointment and failure. Let the past go and explore your new dream.
