CELTA is an internationally recognized qualification that gives individuals the ability to teach English as a foreign language to adult learners. It is a Cambridge certified qualification that has stringent requirements which must be met in order to be successfully passed. CELTA is becoming a leading and globally accepted certificate that is sought-after by individuals from across the globe.
If you wish to take a CELTA course you must first ensure that you meet the following requirements:
You are aged 18 or over
Your English is of a high enough level to teach at a range of levels
You have a level of education that is the equivalent of that required to enter into higher education
Upon meeting these requirements, you must then select a course centre and complete the course. There are over 286 approved CELTA institutions across the globe that offer almost 900 CELTA courses yearly. Once you have successfully completed the entire course you will be able to teach English to adult learners in many countries across the globe, or remain in your country of domicile whilst teaching foreign nationals.
When sitting a CELTA course you will be required to undertake six hours of assessment in a real EFL classroom setting. In addition, you will need to complete four written assignments, all of which must be successfully passed in order to receive the qualification. The CELTA course is regarded as relatively intensive, and although it can be taken on either a part time or full time basis, both courses require dedication, hard work and commitment in order to be passed.
Trainers teaching the CELTA course are all CELTA qualified. Every CELTA trainer must be approved by Cambridge ESOL before being able to teach the course. All courses have a low student-teacher ratio, with a maximum of 6 students to 1 trainer. Tutors also provide one-on-one guidance where required, thus providing the student with an extremely hands on, personal learning experience.
