Working for the Cyprus Police Department

 The public service sector in Cyprus provides excellent career opportunities to those who have the required credentials. There is a variety of different public service areas in Cyprus, ranging from the education sector to the police force. It is therefore relatively easy for individuals to find a governmental job that closely reflects their key areas of interest and skills. One of the largest, and favored, employers in the Cyprus public sector is the Cyprus Police Department.

The advantages of having a career with the police are numerous, which makes getting a job within the police department particularly competitive. As such, there are a number of pre-requisites that must be satisfied by the candidate in order to be eligible to join the force.

Cyprus Police Department Pre-requisites:

  • Applicants must hold Cypriot citizenship

  • Applicants must be over the age of 18, and no older than 28 years to apply

  • The age restriction may not apply where the candidate holds a University degree and the applicant is under the age of 40

  • Applicants must hold a school leaving certificate

  • Good knowledge of Greek and proficiency in another language

  • Possess satisfactory character references

  • Candidates must not have a criminal track record nor can they have been dismissed from a public sector job for a disciplinary offence

  • Previous military, public service, or National Guard experience must be proven with documented evidence

  • Candidate must have completed their required military service

  • Candidates have a bill of good health, certified by a Government Medical Officer. This extends to both physical and mental well being

  • Height restrictions apply for both men and women; men must be a minimum of 1.65m while women must be no less than 1.60m

  • Candidates must achieve at least 50% in their written exam in line with the Regulations of this Law

  • It is essential that individuals pass the required fitness test

Provided the above requirements are met, candidates can enjoy free admission and training at the Police Academy, along with full medical coverage and a competitive salary package.
