10 Alternative Goals for Your Bucket List

While dying is something that’s inevitable and definitely not pleasant, it reminds us that we only have one life and to ensure we make the most of it. The bucket list is essentially a list of all the goals we want to achieve in life, the dreams we want to accomplish and all the life experiences we want to have before we die. In that sense, it’s a rather useful tool for making sure that we are going to do what we’ve promised ourselves.

So in order to avoid living a life full of regrets here’s some alternative bucket list goals to give you some ideas:

#1 Do something that you believe you couldn’t do

Write down your own ‘impossible missions’ and lift those barriers that prevent you from realising your full potential. You know you can do whatever you put your mind to, so the only thing that’s holding you back is your own attitude to success. Remember that life is limitless and we are the ones who surround ourselves with cubicles.

#2 Spend one year of your life living your dreams

At least once in your lifetime, you have to take a year off from work – or at least a part of it. Instead of working a full-time 40-hour work schedule per week, get a part-time or a seasonal job that requires that you work approximately 20 hours a week. This should give you time to reflect and review your life purpose so that you can go after those dreams you’ve put on hold while you were busy with family obligations. 

#3 Go camping

Camping is the excuse you give yourself to connect with nature and experience the wild unknown. Since you’ve become so used to having everything, living in the wild might be your chance to find yourself and experience life in its simplest form. This could be your once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to learn how it feels like to be living off the basics even for just a few days. 

#4 Travel around the world

Even though travelling is a quite common bucket list goal, not many people actually manage to do it to the extent they would have liked. That’s either because they can’t find the free time or the money they need to make it happen. However, this is not at all impossible when you decide to do it. Start saving some money and make some time for yourself; travel solo and live in a foreign country, experience different cultures and meet new people who have something to teach you.

#5 Do something without expecting a reward

The world can become a much better place if everyone includes this point on their own bucket list. Since it’s something you need to do anyway, make it your goal to do something for people without expecting anything in return. Whenever you get the chance, do something nice, and rewards will come to you anyway.

#6 Gain financial freedom

Living a life with no stress over the issue of how much money you owe the bank is a pretty big deal. But how are you going to do that when society doesn’t allow you to own your house unless you put yourself in debt?

There are many ways to gain financial freedom that are much easier than you think. In order to enjoy a fulfilling life, all you need is a ground-breaking idea that will allow you to launch a product or a service people need or become an expert at what you do. The aim though shouldn’t be to make more money; just to have enough to live by, being simple and happy.

#7 Do volunteer work

By volunteering not only do you help out the community, but you also get to know yourself better and expand your horizons. Also, if you think doing the same job throughout your lifetime is boring, then you can spice things up a little by trying something new. Who knows you might discover your true passion in a field that you never thought could suit you more than your current job.  

#8 Try out things that scare you

Life begins at the end of your comfort zone. This suggests that in order to live fully and be able to say that you’ve experienced everything in life you need to challenge yourself by facing your fears. Create another list and write down 10 things that terrify you e.g. public speaking, befriending a stranger, disagreeing with your boss and try them out – be careful though you don’t want to lose your job.

#9 Try out extreme sports

As far as it concerns extreme sports, you have a wide variety to choose from. If you want to experience the adrenaline once – why not twice, in your life you can climb a mountain, go bungee jumping, skydiving, rafting or anything else your heart desires. This kind of experience will stay with you forever as it will be something you’ll never forget!

#10 Tell everyone you care about that you love them

There’s nothing greater than showing your appreciation to the people who you love the most in this world. Sometimes saying it out loud can make you feel better and seals the bond you have with that person. As Alexander Graham Bell once said, “time goes by so fast, people go in and out of your life and you must never miss the opportunity to tell these people how much they mean to you.”

While these bucket list goals were some suggestions that you can follow, there are endless possibilities and ideas about things you can experience. The only thing you need to do in order to create your own is to find out what are your true needs and desires in life.
