Who said you need to go to college to be successful? Michael Dell, Bill Gates, Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerberg are living proof that you can become successful and make a fortune without necessarily having to study at a college!

1. Get Hands on Work Experience

As an alternative to not having a college degree, you need to start building on your work experience and putting together a rich portfolio. Volunteer in the field of your interest, get a part-time job and gradually build up your knowledge so that you can become a master at what you do.

2. Educate Yourself Online

There are endless useful resources online that can help you acquire the information you need. It’s quite easy as everything is available on the web now, and you don’t need any professor to guide you if you know what you are after. Become your own teacher and make the most out of open access journals, e-book websites and free online classes.

3. Find Yourself a Mentor

A mentor can help you fulfill your career aspirations. If you can find yourself a mentor he will be able to guide you through your journey and offer you his advice and secrets to success. This will also help you gain a useful insight into the industry and be prepared along the way. Identify and reach out to professionals on LinkedIn, who are in the position to help you develop.

4. Develop Transferable Skills

Apart from getting relevant work experience, you need to start investing in your transferable skills. Since these are skills that can be applied to any job, they are essentially regarded as key predictors to success. The majority of employers expect to see that you possess excellent communication skills, the ability to work under pressure, teamwork, problem solving and leadership.

5. Become an Apprentice

As an apprentice, you have the opportunity to develop job-specific skills that are in demand for certain specialised occupations through an on-the-job training program while getting paid. Although apprenticeships can last up to 4 years, it might be a good alternative for you if you believe studying at a college is not your thing.

6. Come up with a Unique Idea

Look at every successful entrepreneur today. All they had twenty years ago was an exceptional idea, and now they are swimming in a huge pool of cash! If you have a unique idea, start your own business and let everyone know what your vision is in regards to changing the world.

7. Get Certified

Getting a professional certificate might be a good alternative to studying for a 3 or 4-year degree. This is because the certificate requires less time and money and it is more occupation-driven which means it can be directly relevant to your job.

8. Build your Personal Brand

Developing a personal brand can get you famous in no time. All that you need is to create the right material that will shout out your name to the rest of the world. Go online, get working on your blog, create videos and promote yourself as much as possible to make your voice heard and get noticed!

9. Be Open to Learning

The number one predictor of success is being open to learning. Only then, are you in the position to think creatively and only then are you most likely to make an impact in this world.

10. Think About Success the Right Way

Every successful entrepreneur knows that in order to reach their goal they have to fail miserably. Not just once but a hundred times throughout their career trajectory. This is, after all, their secret to success. Keep that in mind and don’t allow failure take away your dreams.

In order to become successful, you have to be willing to work hard and make sacrifices. While you may don’t need a college degree, you will have to invest in developing yourself and go the extra mile.
