Being a real estate agent may not be as easy or exciting as it sounds. Read the following article to find out what becoming a real estate agent feels like.

Real estate is an excellent industry to enter if you love working with others and having an active, fast-paced job. Most real estate agents love their jobs and the people they work with. However, many people who are just in the beginning stages of becoming a real estate agent have a specific idea of what their career will look like, and in most cases, this idea isn't entirely correct. If you're wondering how to become real estate agent, here are eight confessions about what the job is actually like:

1. Getting Your License Takes Time

Although getting your real estate license takes less time than earning a college degree, it still can be a complicated process. In most states, the pre-license education takes a few months, whether you get your real estate license online or in-person. The licensing tests are challenging, and you'll probably have to invest time and money into the education.

2. It's Difficult Work

It’s obvious that real estate agents work hard, but there are a lot of behind-the-scenes aspects to the career that outsiders don't notice. You have to travel between houses and towns every day, promote homes for sale with flyers or ads, and make sure houses are presentable enough to show to buyers. You'll probably be on your feet for most of every day.

3. You Have to Be a Great Salesperson

To become a realtor, you have to sell to your clients without being pushy or untrustworthy. If you don’t feel like a convincing salesperson, just follow the golden rule of sales: fake it ‘til you make it. If you act confident, you’ll eventually become confident.

4. You May Have to Work Long Hours

Most people at the beginning stages of real estate training wonder: how much do realtors make? Some people imagine real estate agents raking in thousands of dollars for a few hours of work. In reality, the amount of money you make usually reflects the number of hours you put into your job, and you'll probably have to work long hours to make a good profit. While most people relax in the evenings and weekends, you'll be rushing around to show your clients homes and organize open houses.

5. Some Clients Will Drive You Crazy

In any job that involves working with others, you’ll face some crazy customers, and real estate is no different. Be prepared to work with clients who don't trust you, who think they know more than you, and who don't even clean up their homes before a showing. Some clients will make your job a hundred times harder, but that's an unavoidable part of your career.

6. You'll Meet Some Incredible People

Although you may have a few clients who make you question your career choice, the majority of people you'll work with will be lovely. One of the best parts of getting into real estate is interacting with a variety of people. Most of your clients will appreciate your hard work, and they'll let you know.

7. You'll Love Seeing Your Clients Happy

After working with your clients for months, you'll sincerely want them to be happy with their new home. When you have friendly, helpful, and easygoing clients, seeing them become overjoyed when the process is finally over is always worth the hard work.

8. Being Your Own Boss is Great

Many people thrive when they're in charge of themselves. As long as you can stay motivated without a supervisor watching your every move, having the freedom to make your own schedule and take on as many or as few clients as you want is a fantastic opportunity.
