How to Get an Internship With NetApp

NetApp, formerly known as Network Appliance, is an American computer storage and data management company that has its headquarters in California. The popular company was ranked on the Fortune 500 and achieved top-10 status amongst the 100 Best Companies to Work For in 2012 as well as #3 on the Great Place to Work Institute’s list of the “World’s Best Multinational Workplaces 2014”! Now, if you want to get a job with NetApp, the best way is to work your way through an internship! Check out some tips and useful information on how to get the internship of your dreams.

The Internship

In the US, an internship with NetApp takes place during the summer period and lasts up to 3 months. It is available for students who are currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or a more advanced degree program. The NetApp internship aims to help you achieve three important goals. These are:

  • Gain understanding of the NetApp business.
  • Gain knowledge about the specific role within the company.
  • Engage and socialize with the community of interns and employees at events hosted by NetApp.

When you are a NetApp intern, you have the opportunity to take part in various real-world projects and share the results with your peers, as well as major executives and organisational leaders across all business areas. Moreover, according to Glassdoor, you will be earning approx. $30.09 per hour! Apart from that, however, here’s a list of the benefits you get throughout your internship with the company:

  • Develop work experience while studying.
  • Get to learn from professional mentors.
  • Build a network of contacts.
  • Find a place at a company in any US location to kick start your career.

Required Skills

If you are working towards your Bachelor’s, Master’s or Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information Systems or any other relevant degree you can apply for the position of Software or QA Engineering Intern. First, check out some basic skill requirements that will help you become an engineering intern:

  • Proficiency in at least one programming language C/C++, Java, Perl, etc.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and teamwork.
  • Successful completion of at least one operating system course or related project.
  • Knowledge and experience in specific areas of engineering and computer science basics.

The Interview with NetApp

If you have missed your chance of getting hired through campus recruiting don’t worry, you can still apply for a summer internship online. Again looking at Glassdoor reviews, 27% of people who got the interview applied online, while 23% got it through campus recruiting and 21% from employee referrals.

As far as it concerns the interview experience itself, 66% of people said it was overall a positive one, while 22% said was neutral and 11% negative. Since the majority of previous applicants thought the interview was a positive experience, it shouldn’t be particularly unpleasant. In reality, the level of interview difficulty is currently on average scoring 3.1 out 5.

Becoming Familiar with NetApp

In order to become an intern at NetApp it is important that you learn more about the company’s culture and future goals.
