Helping Others, Helps You
The staff of Olivia Pope and Associates are referred to as “Gladiators” throughout the show because no matter the situation they will always fight alongside Olivia. This dedication comes from the fact that in some point of their lives she has provided help and extended a hand of hope. When it comes to work, they all possess a skill that comes in handy. The set-up of the office is also very open and it allows for great communication amongst the staff and their clients.
Lesson Learned: Selfless acts can be beneficial to you in the long-run.
Don’t Mix Business and Pleasure
The “scandal “part of the series surrounds Olivia’s relationship with her former employer, the President of the United States. While working on Governor Fitzgerald Grant’s presidential campaign an affair begins. Once he became president she could no longer deal with the guilt and resigned from her position to begin her own firm. Although she tries to leave him behind, their involvement has impacted each other’s lives and careers.

“You have to work twice as hard to get 1/2 of what they have.” Olivia Pope (Season 3)
The rich and powerful of Washington D.C. goes to Olivia because she has worked hard to get where she is. No case is too tough, and if it is she will still find a way to help her clients. Whether it’s about her client cheating, hiding a baby, or covering up a murder she has dedicated her time to help them out.
Lesson Learned: Don’t always take the easy route. Challenging yourself shows off your hard work and flexibility.
Trust Your Instincts
Dealing with crisis is not an easy thing to do. Her experience, however, proves to be valuable. When dealing with clients all Olivia asks for is the truth, sometimes she gets it and sometimes she doesn’t. While she may not always realize when things are going bad, she relies on her instincts about someone or something to take over. This usually shows the flaws with someone’s story and gets the facts out of them.
Lesson Learned: If you have a bad feeling about something, trust it. You may notice something that others have not.
Never let them see you sweat. Or, cry. Olivia has to face the press on an everyday basis. Even when she isn’t sure what her next step is, she makes sure to keep it cool. Her confidence and sharp tongue truly makes her a force to be reckoned with.
Lesson Learned: Keep calm under pressure. Stressing yourself out only makes things worse.
Olivia Pope is far from perfect, but her enthusiasm and dedication exemplifies a great work ethic. It’s no wonder why she is so successful.
