10 Ways to Escape from the Daily Routine

Do you feel like it’s high time to start planning your escape? Considering that it’s summer and all you want to do is go to the beach, enjoy the sun and have fun, finding the motivation to work must be extremely difficult for you at the moment! By the way, excuse me if you are reading this while at work – I imagine this must be really painful.  

Even though sticking to a routine can be very useful and rewarding on many levels – as it helps you get things done – however sometimes it’s just plain boring. I mean how long are you going to repeat the process of eating your cereal at 8 am, checking your emails at 10 am and going to the gym at 6 pm for? At some point, you will get sick of obeying such rules and feel like doing something different; something out of the ordinary.  

So how about eating fruit for breakfast, not checking your emails for a day and enjoying a walk along the beach? This could be just a small change to your every day schedule, nevertheless, an important one as it can help you do something out of the norm and as such recharge your batteries.

In terms of where you can go to allow yourself to unwind you have countless choices. If you ask me, there’s no better way to break your daily routine than traveling to somewhere you’ve never been or doing something you’ve never done before. But if traveling abroad is not a realistic option, then there are still many things you can do without leaving the country.

This list should give you some ideas to help you inject a bit of excitement into your dull daily routine. Let’s have a look:

1. Go to the beach for a night swim


Living near to a beach has its perks. While most people who do often overlook the benefits, it doesn’t mean you should do the same. So why not take the opportunity to go for a late-night swim? After work, the beach is not as crowded as in the morning, and you get to enjoy its warm waters and some exercise as well! Swimming at night might just be the best thing in the world after a long tiring day!

2. Go to a fancy restaurant


Has a new restaurant opened in your neighborhood? What about that new pizzeria on the corner? Since you don’t get to eat at a fancy restaurant every day, whenever you feel like treating yourself you should do it. Doing so will not only make you satisfied and happy, but will also boost your self-esteem as it’s something that you deserve.

3. Go to a spa

Spas are some of the greatest routine-breaking retreats. There you get to enjoy a variety of services from professional massages to healing treatments and meditation.

4. Go fishing


Fishing is one of the most relaxing hobbies ever. No wonder Ron Swanson compared it to Yoga. Even though you may not know much about it, just looking at the sea can make you feel incredibly calm and let your mind escape from reality. If you haven’t tried it yet, you definitely should – provided of course that you have a good amount of patience as this skill is important for fishing. 

5. Go on a road trip

Who said you have to go somewhere in particular? Traveling around in your car might be all you need to escape from this mediocrity. Not to mention it’s an excellent way to create new memories with the people you love. So let the road take you where you least expect yourself to go and enjoy the journey.

6. Go bowling

Instead of going out for drinks again, make sure you do something that allows you to communicate with other people in a constructive way. Call up your buddies and suggest going bowling. Not many people think about bowling as their first choice so you will be amazed at their reaction to doing something they haven’t done for a while. As for you, bowling will help you reminisce about your childhood memories and help you wind down for a while.

7. Go to a museum


Most people would go to a museum as tourists travelling to a foreign country. But there is much to see at the local museum in your area too. If you are looking for a change while doing something productive, you could visit a place you’ve never been to that  allows you to learn a thing or two. I mean a night at the museum never hurt anybody, right?

8. Go camping


Obviously camping is not for everyone, but if you have friends who enjoy it then why not grab the opportunity and go away for the weekend? Unplugging yourself from the high-tech world for a while will leave you more rested than before. Also, camping is another word for adventure, and adventure is what you need to break the monotony of routine.

9. Visit an art gallery


Exposing yourself to art is a great way to gain inspiration and can be as effective as playing music, learning a new dance routine or going to a concert or the theatre. Allowing yourself to do something that’s creative will leave you feeling less bored and uninterested in your everyday schedule.

10. Go to the cinema

Many people believe that the cinema is a magical place. Just like reading a book, it transports you to a different dimension and helps you forget all of your problems and concerns. For the most fanatic movie lovers out there, I am pretty sure going to the cinema would be a great choice. Especially if there’s a movie you have been waiting a long time to see!

In order to escape your routine, you need to deviate from it slightly. Whether that means staying in your hometown, meeting your friends for a drink or going on a small trip, it can be an excellent way to start feeling well-rested and invigorated!  

Then again depends on what you enjoy the most. Find out what boosts your happiness and excitement and find some time to fit those activities into your busy life-absorbing routine.

Breaking away from your daily routine shouldn’t be too hard. In some cases, all you need is to experiment with your own interests to figure out what you really enjoy doing on weekdays!
