Blackberry has taken a bit of a nosedive in the last couple of years, as the company is struggles to reinvent itself with new products and the continued development of high quality software. If you are looking for a good place to get an internship, Blackberry may be an option to consider for the time being at least. The future of Blackberry may be uncertain, but at least you’ll have the opportunity to develop your skills in a number of fields.
So how can you go about getting your internship at Blackberry?
The company offers job opportunities around the world, mainly in the Research and Development departments. The majority of the job openings are in the U.S. and Canada, and the internships are ONLY available in these two countries.
To find out about internships at Blackberry, students will need to get in touch with Blackberry campus ambassadors in their schools. These campus ambassadors are students who have gone through the internship program at Blackberry, and who are now back in school. They can give you information on the internship opportunities, as well as helping you to fill out your CV and navigate the interview process.
There aren’t many schools where Campus Ambassadors can be found, just three in fact:
- McMaster University
- York University
- University of Waterloo
All three of these colleges are located in Canada, so only Canadian students will be able to contact Campus Ambassadors to find out about the Blackberry internships.
For those in the rest of the U.S. or Canada, the only way to apply for an internship is to go directly to the Blackberry website and fill out the job application there.
According to the Blackberry website, the process is fairly simple:
Apply online. An application is provided for students to fill out, providing all of the skills and experience relevant to the job. You will need to provide a copy of your resume as well.
Interview with a recruiter. Should your application be selected, you will be contacted by a recruiter to schedule an interview. Most of the first interviews are conducted over the phone, and they give recruiters a chance to see if you have what it takes.
Interview with a hiring manager or team members. This is an in-person interview with either a hiring manager or members of the Blackberry team, allowing them to see how you handle yourself in person. Note: Blackberry will usually help to meet accommodation needs if you are traveling to the interview from out of the city or country.
Offer of employment/internship. If you are selected for the internship, a formal offer will be made.
It’s a pretty simple process, though you need to know that there are not many internship openings available at Blackberry.
Blackberry offers a CPA Training Program, designed for students studying chartered accountancy. It provides experience in 7 different financial departments and offers work opportunities with KPMG accountants.
Blackberry is a global company, with offices in North America, South America, Europe, and Asia, so anyone from around the world can apply, provided they have the required skills.
